How to Recall an Email in Outlook (Unsend an Email)

It has also been a great way to organize emails, but some of its features can be confusing. Luckily, you can get to your emails in Outlook by using the Unsend functionality, which allows you to send a message to yourself without sending it.

A recent post on how to Unsend an email in Outlook (Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013) went viral on Reddit and a bunch of other websites. We’re going to take a look at how to do it, and how to make sure your email is Unsent before you send it on.

Moreover, if the recipient has opened the letter, it cannot be revoked.

Retrieve an e-mail message in Outlook (newer versions)

If you are using a newer version like Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013, Outlook 2016, Outlook 2019 or Outlook 365, they all use the same process to retrieve emails. It also depends on the Outlook tapes you use. Outlook has two different ribbons – classic and simplified. Ribbons are a collection of options and settings that allow you to perform various tasks. Your version of Outlook may have the Classic ribbon or the Simplified ribbon by default. Therefore we have included instructions for both types of ribbons. If you don’t know which ribbon to use, don’t worry, if method 1 doesn’t work, look at method 2. So let’s see how you can revoke or cancel sending emails in Outlook 2016, Outlook 365, etc.

Method 1 (Conventional band)

  1. Open the Outlook application on your computer.
  2. Click Sent in the left pane of Outlook.
  3. Now open the message/letter you want to activate. Be sure to double click on the message to open it in a full window.
  4. Go to the Message tab and click on Actions -> Receive this message.
  5. Now, depending on your choice, click either Delete unread copies of this message or Delete unread copies and replace with a new message.
  6. You can also let me know if the review was successful or not for each recipient. But if there are many recipients, you should avoid it.
  7. After selecting the desired option, press OK.
  8. You can also type your message and click Send if you want to replace a deleted message.

Method 2 (simplified band)

  1. In Outlook, open the Sent folder in the left pane of Outlook.
  2. Open the message you want to activate. Be sure to double click on the message to open another window.
  3. Go to the Messages tab and click on the three dots (they are in the rightmost corner).
  4. Now select the Actions option from the options, and then the Restore this message option.
  5. Then click Delete unread copies of this message or select Delete unread copies and replace with a new message.
  6. You can also choose the option to tell me whether or not the review was successful for each recipient.
  7. After selecting the desired option, press OK.
  8. You can also type your message and click Send if you want to replace a deleted message.

Since newer versions of Outlook have the added protection of Azure Information Protection, you may not see the option to retract this message. Also, this feature cannot be performed if you are not using an Exchange Services account and the recipient is not using an Outlook email address. To ensure that users purchase and use Office 365 desktop apps, the callback feature is also not available when Outlook is used in a web browser, Android app, or iOS app. This may seem like a limitation, but there is a good reason why you should have a subscription to Microsoft Office.
